Big Impact: Great Need | TeachBeyond’s Child Sponsorship Program
“What really makes our child sponsorship program different from other giving opportunities is the relational aspect. In 2025, we delivered 400 letters between children and sponsors,” says Maria Berezny, Child Sponsorship Program Coordinator with TeachBeyond.
“We now have almost 170 children sponsored,” Maria shared. “In 2024, we raised just over $41,000 US. In 2025, that blossomed to just shy of $73,000. The impact the child sponsorship program is having is profound.”
Ahmed*, a grade 2 student at Founder’s Free School in West Asia, is a living example of how compassion, opportunity, and God’s grace can transform a child’s life.
From birth, Ahmed struggled with a severe hearing problem. When he first joined our school, he was bright, eager, and excited to learn—but he simply could not hear the teacher’s voice clearly. Every lesson was a challenge.
Our teachers patiently worked with him: showing him how to speak, how to follow instructions, how to manage his behaviour, and how to engage with classmates. Every time he pronounced a new word correctly, the whole class rejoiced! His teachers saw potential in him and refused to give up.
In 2022, Founder’s Free School took a crucial step: They sent Ahmed to a professional Speech Therapy School for 1 full year, at almost no cost to his family. The Free School covered all therapy expenses and also provided him with 2 high-quality hearing aids. Each morning, his mother took him to speech therapy, then waited 4 hours to bring him back to the Free School for regular classes in the afternoon. Slowly but surely, his life began to change.
Today, Ahmed listens better, learns better, speaks confidently, and even talks a lot more than before! His parents often express their deep gratitude: “Without the Free School, our son would not have this chance.”
God used the generosity of donors, the dedication of teachers, and the loving care of this community to meet a real physical need. Now that Ahmed can hear clearly, he can also hear words of hope, love, and truth.
Another impact example comes to us from Arbor Christian Academy in the Dominican Republic. At the start of the school year, Stefanie* really struggled academically, especially with handwriting and math. She often became overwhelmed, cried, and then shut down.
But her teacher worked with the class on a growth mindset. Together, the students practiced reminding themselves that learning takes time. Instead of saying “I can’t do this,” they learned to say, “I don’t understand it yet, but I will!”
As the class moved through tough topics like long division, multi-digit multiplication, decimals, and fractions, something changed. Her teachers would catch Stefanie quietly whispering to herself, “I don’t understand it yet, but I will!”
Little by little, her confidence started to grow. Her attitude shifted from fear to determination. She began to believe in herself, because her teachers and sponsor believe in her.
TeachBeyond child sponsors also have ongoing access to a Sponsorship Dashboard. This allows them to print off their sponsored child’s profile information and photo, which are both updated annually. The dashboard also keeps a record of all the letters sent and received between a sponsor and their sponsored child.
Right now, more than 245 children are on a waiting list praying for a sponsor. To find out more about how you can become a child sponsor click here.
