Kilometers for Kids 2024: People on the Move to Support Open Schools Worldwide

Kilometers for Kids 2024: People on the Move to Support Open Schools Worldwide

Once again, this past weekend people in at least 13 countries, on 4 continents took part in “Kilometers for Kids”, a global fundraiser for the marginalized children served by Open Schools Worldwide (OSWW). They either ran, walked, or biked and got donor pledges for every kilometer they completed. Others gave set donations for OSWW. Participants included walkers in the UK, Kenya, Australia, South Africa and Germany; as well as runners in Switzerland and New York and bikers in Georgia.

As was the case last year, groups of children from our projects took to the streets and walked through their communities, singing, chanting, wearing Kilometers for Kids running bibs and carrying home-made signs creating awareness of KM4K, Open Schools, education, and God’s love. This happened in South Africa, Liberia, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and Malawi.

The donations from this year’s Kilometers for Kids will go towards producing both children’s literacy and numeracy workbooks, as well as training resources in Malawi, Uganda, Burundi, & Liberia, among other things. We won’t know how much was generated in funds this last weekend through Kilometers for Kids for several weeks. It’s been humbling and exciting once again to see folks around the world showing love for these disadvantaged children, by getting out and completing some kilometers and/or donating to Open Schools. We know God will once again honor these efforts and gifts, which will help make a difference for many, many children, providing them with “hope through life-changing learning”.

By the way, it’s not too late to add a contribution to Kilometers for Kids at www.osww.org/km4k.
