Mobilizing Teachers to Advance the Gospel - TeachBeyond in Papua New Guinea

[0:00] Logan: Sometimes you think about being a missionary, you have to be either an evangelist or a pastor or a Bible translator, but God opens doors for people who are electricians and teachers and airplane mechanics and pilots to go so that the gospel can be preached. Get ready for hair and makeup. We're going to serve in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea at a mission base there with Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Summer Institute of Linguistics, and more specifically we're going to serve at the Ukarumpa International School.

[0:49] Christine: One of the things that I think is so neat about how God has called us to Ukarumpa to support the work of Bible translation, now we get to go support translators so that work can continue. When I was 5, I came home from Sunday school one week with a dilemma, and I said to my mom, how am I ever going to choose between being a mom and a teacher and a Sunday school teacher and a missionary? So I believe that even when I was 5, God put that call on my heart to go and serve internationally as a teacher.

[1:19] Logan: Now we have the opportunity to go and serve in a place that's Putting God's Word into the hands of people who are coming from some 840 different language groups, putting God's Word into their hands in their own heart language.

[1:35] Christine: But if there are no teachers, then that can't happen. Because of the shortage of teachers, and if there are even fewer teachers or no teachers, different people wouldn't be able to serve with the gifts that God has given them because they will need to be home homeschooling their kids. Or in a worst-case scenario would be that families couldn't be together. When we're in Ukarumpa, I'll be teaching on the primary campus at the school there.

[1:59] Logan: So I won't actually be working at the school other than if something breaks, but I'll be going to support the school and Bible translators by serving as an electrician and part-time farmer.

[2:13] Christine: And I think that's our ultimate goal. We're going with TeachBeyond to teach and to work on the maintenance team, but so the work of Bible translation can happen in peace.
