When Family Healing Began at School

Part of the Great Commission Jesus gives in Matthew 28:19-20 includes “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This call to discipleship is being lived out at Fateb Kinshasa Academy (FKA), a TeachBeyond Family School in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  

One family came to FKA facing challenges in communication at home. But after experiencing a school that models how to be together and be family, those relationships are beginning to heal. Heritier Fima (FKA Director) and Nathan Mudiji (FKA school pastor) share the transformational story of how this family has been impacted by the school after just one year of attending.  

Three sisters and one brother began attending FKA enduring something very bad and complicated in their homelife that left the kids not talking to each other. Fima, Nathan and other school teachers were not aware of the situation.  

As the kids attended school, they saw that all the other students were always together, praying together, and talking together. Then there was one day when they came to Pastor Nathan in the school office to say, “We need to change our life because the way that we are following, the way we are living together in our home, it’s not something good. Pastor Nathan, can you pray for us? Because today we need to stop our fighting as a system.” 

Now the kids have accepted Jesus and their status as children of God while being at school. God's work is evident at FKA. The teachers had no idea these children weren’t speaking to each other at home. They were simply faithfully serving at FKA by teaching the way they believe, and God came in to do His work through them.   

Through experiencing the Christ-centered culture at FKA, this family is beginning to heal. The children are not only gaining an education, but the blessings of living a life that is honoring to God. Their experiences at school have had a positive impact on their family at home. What a testimony to the power of education as missions!
